Brand Identity

I designed the brand identity for Kyoto City in my second year course in community college.

The logo is formed by “京” (Kyoto), and other characteristics of Kyoto city e.g. torii, circle and plants.

I chose dark blue and dim gold as the main colour scheme in order to represent the city’s decency and tranquility.

The visual system of the application use the colour palatte mentioned above in gradient to express the atmosphere of Kyoto.

The applications are mainly traditional Japanese daily essentials, as souvenirs to the tourists.

Infographic

This infographic tells the changes of my community within 50 years, and the standard of living of the residents.

I illustrated some symbolic buildings and some statistics that can indicate the change in the community throughout the years.

Typography

This project is about typography of a movie. The first 3 tasks focus on the structure, grid and hierarchy.

The following tasks focus on the letterforms and typographic expression.
A poster to conclude the movie.
Typographic logo for a song: The title “鶴頂紅” (toxic arsenic), has a piercing, pointy structure representing the bitterness and the pain.

Publication Design

A movie-themed magazine named “Montage”.
Cover story is about the 30th anniversary of Back to the Future. Columns are about technology trends, music and culture.

Digital Imaging

This set of posters is designed for a virtual jazz concert, created by freely hand-written title and illustrations.

Web Design

A functional bohemian-themed online shop. The subtle use of patterns and illustrations helps me building a folk style layout.

I used the patterns on the clothes as a frame of information so that the information box is more relatable to the pictures.

Posters for the 35th Hong Kong Film Awards Presentation Ceremony

I participated in an open competition of poster design for the 35th Hong Kong Film Awards Presentation Ceremony. The theme for this years is “Forever Young”, and I chose the colour gold as a symbol of youth.

I designed several layouts but the competition only accept one submission.

Photography

Photography is one of my most interested areas and I enjoy taking photos through different means e.g. film, pinhole. I even looked into darkroom to have a better understanding of the theory of photography.

The view of the overcrowded Hong Kong. Photography enables me to explore and understand my city more than I thought.
Through photography, I can capture the the view of my surroundings, wishing it could become a historical record.

Japanese garden at Daitoku-ji, Kyoto.
A portrait of a small local grocery store owner, who closed down the store at the end of the lease.

I drew a portratit of an old man in my community and paste it on a photograph, in remembrance of him and other homeless people.
